The connection that shapes your journey
The usual road route connects Federal Highway 307 with the El Cafetal–Mahahual turnoff. From that junction, continue towards the coast and your accommodation.

From Chetumal and Bacalar
Take Highway 307 north and turn onto the El Cafetal–Mahahual road. Municipal tourism lists 142 km between Chetumal and Mahahual as a reference between destinations. Calculate from your actual departure address and arrange the final hotel transfer if you are travelling without a car.

From Cancún, Playa del Carmen or Tulum
Follow Highway 307 south through Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto to El Cafetal, then turn towards Mahahual. Cancún and Playa del Carmen involve a longer journey than Tulum. Calculate from the correct airport, town center or hotel zone, allowing time for stops.

Which airport to choose
Chetumal (CTM) is the nearest; Tulum (TQO) and Cancún (CUN) are alternatives. Compare the flight and road transfer together, including luggage and arrival time. Confirm your terminal and pickup: none of these airports brings you directly into Mahahual.

Buses and shared vans
Check your origin, Mahahual, date and terminal with ADO; do not assume a daily direct service. For shared vans, confirm departure point, luggage and return with the operator or your accommodation. A service ending in Bacalar, Chetumal or Tulum still leaves a connection to Mahahual.

Arriving by Maya Train
The Maya Train does not reach Mahahual town. Compare Limones–Chacchoben, Bacalar or Chetumal Aeropuerto according to your route and the road transfer you can arrange. Check official schedules and confirm pickup before buying: the train ticket does not automatically include the journey to your hotel.

From the port or town entrance to your hotel
Save your accommodation’s map pin and confirm where luggage can be dropped off. Costa Maya port and the waterfront are separate places: tourism lists roughly 3–5 km from the pier to the main promenade area, depending on endpoints. Cruise visitors should arrange their return around the ship’s time.
